DAY 5 : TRANSPORTATION IN RUSSIA
Here are 5 methods of transportation and 5 places where you can find them. Some of these words are very similar to English, other ones are unique.
Ways to travel in Russian
In Russia, the majority of people who live in big cities use public transportation. It is fast, affordable, and less stressful than driving a car. The driving age in Russia is 18. The majority of cars have a stick shift. It takes 6 month to complete a special course to get your driver's license.
1 - такси (f) - [tak-see] - taxi
2 - метро (n) - [metro] - subway, metro
3 - автобус (m) - [auto-bus] - a bus
4 - поезд (m) - [po-ye-z-d] - a train
5 - самолёт (m) - [sa-mo-l-yo-t] - a plane
Where to find transportation in Russia
1 - улица (f) - [oo-lee-tsa] - a street
2 - станция метро (f) - [stan-tsi-ya metro] - metro station
3 - остановка автобуса (f) - [osta-nov-ka av-to-bu-sa] - bus stop
4 - вокзал (m) - [vak-zal] - railway station
5 - аэропорт (m) - [ah-eh-ro-port] - an airport
I need + verb
To express "I need" with verbs we use construction which sounds like: "To me it is necessary to go to the airport." We also skip the verb to go. =) Here is how the sentence looks like: Мне нужно в аэропорт.
I need to go to the Moscovskaya station. - Мне нужно на станцию метро Московаская.
I need to go to the Moskovskiii Union station. Мне нужно на Московский вокзал.
I need to use the restroom. Мне нужно в туалет.
I need to go to the hospital. Мне нужно в больницу.
Where do you need to go? - Куда вам нужно?
Where does he need to go? - Куда ему нужно?
Where does she need to go? - Куда ей нужно?
I need + noun
"I need" with nouns would have 4 different endings. You would say: ("Мне нужен доктор" - I need a doctor) for masculine nouns. You would say ("Мне нужна работа" - I need a job) for feminine nouns. You would use (" Мне нужно вино" - I need a wine) for neuter nouns. And finally you would say: ("Мне нужны деньги" - I need money) for plural nouns.
we will practice only masculine form with the phrase I need bus number 5.
What bus does he need? - Какой автобус ему нужен?
He needs bus #5. - Ему нужен автобус автобус номер пять.
What bus does she need? - Какой автобус ей нужен?
She needs bus #2.
Ей нужен автобус номер два.
If you can't remember the form "I need" you also can use a simple form "Where is an airport around here?" Где тут аэропорт? and "Where is the bus #3 around here?" Где тут автобус номер пять?

1 - машина (f) - [ma-she-nah] - a car
2 - заправка (f) - [zap-rav-ka] - gas station
3 - парковка (f) - [par-kov-ka] - parking space, parking lot
4 - гараж (m) - [ga-ra-j] - garage

Exercise 2
If you use a verb "to go", a noun after it changes to accusative case. Masculine nouns don't change the case, feminine nouns get "у" or "ю" ending.
